Sault Ste. Marie man sentenced for domestic assault

Heading to prison

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI -- In federal court, a Sault Ste. Marie man will be sent to prison for domestic assault by a habitual offender.

Leonard Scott Nickaboine, 32, plead guilty to a federal indictment charging him in the beating of his wife in December of last year.

He had been convicted of domestic violence on two other occasions in the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians Tribal court.

Nickaboine will be sent to federal prison for 41 months, have 3 years of supervised release, and pay a special assessment.
