K-4 music eliminated

L'ANSE -- Dozens of people attended Monday evening's school board meeting in L'Anse to support the band program and its teacher.

The board did pass the budget for next school year which will eliminate the K through 4 music program and potentially the position of current music and band teacher, Aaron VanDusen.  This was after a number of parents and at least one former student made emotional statements on her behalf.

"We wanted to be here to do what we can to help her keep her job.  If she does lose her job, a lot of kids and people in the area are going to lose out, big time," said L'Anse parent, Audrey Cronkright.

Board members said VanDusen will know whether or not she'll keep her job by July 15 when final class schedules are submitted.
