Pleads down to misdemeanor
MARQUETTE -- As Upper Michigan's Source first reported earlier this week, former Marquette businessman Joel Westrom has, in fact, worked out a plea agreement on a fraud charge. It'll allow him to avoid jail time.
According to Assistant Marquettte County Prosecutor, David Payant, Westrom will plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of "false pretenses" on a sum between $200 and $1,000. Basically, that means he lied to get money.
Westrom returns to Marquette County District Court next Thursday to officially make the plea.
Originally five businessmen were charged with fraud in the Hawks Ridge Condominium case. Charges were dropped against three, and the other two will apparently not be serving jail time for it.
