LANSING (AP) -- A coalition of business, civic, and government groups says it opposes a convention to revise the 1963 Michigan Constitution.

Citizens Protecting Michigan's Constitution issued a statement Monday urging voters to reject Proposal One on the November ballot.

The coalition says a constitutional convention would waste time and money and create uncertainty about Michigan's future.

Convention supporter and Republican gubernatorial candidate Sen. Tom George says the convention could pay for itself in less than a year with moves such as creating a part-time Legislature.

Coalition members include the state Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau, Townships Association Catholic Conference, public university presidents, and others.
