Commission wants to move, but needs answers
MARQUETTE -- Members of the Marquette City Commission weighed in on the future of the Heartwood Forest land project and what will happen with the land.
Commissioners stressed the need to move forward with the project. However, some questions need to be answered before any of the land can be developed, like possible deed restrictions and easements.
The city purchased the over 2,000 acres five years ago.
"I do certainly agree that we need to move forward with Heartwood and with all deliberant speed, but again, taking real care on recommendations and value of the land and what the citizens have been telling us," stated City Commissioner, Fred Stonehouse.
Only about 930 acres of the land have potential for development. Most of the land is used for outdoor recreation.
