Defendant will face all of the same charges in August
HOUGHTON -- A new trial date has been set in the case of alleged murderer and arsonist Ronald Kemppainen.
Last month a Houghton County jury spent more than 14 hours in deliberations before telling the judge there was simply no way they'd be able to reach a unanimous decision.
Forty-eight-year-old Kemppainen is accused of starting an apartment fire that killed four people in Hancock last July.
He showed no emotion Thursday as the judge announced he would be retried on the same charges in August.
The court set aside a full week for the trial which is scheduled to start on August 9.
