Cliffs Natural Resources funds the project
ISHPEMING -- Cliffs Natural Resources and junior skiers from the Ishpeming Ski Club were hard at work Wednesday planting trees. They planted 25 trees along the Carp Creek near the Country Village in Ishpeming.
Cliffs paid for the trees and all expenses for the project. This is the second year for the event.
Last year they planted trees near the Heritage Trail to serve as a wind block.
"It's all part of Cliffs' effort to be a sustainable community member meaning we give back to the community and give back in a way that is sustainable. These trees will last forever, hopefully, and they'll be part of the landscape and part of the environment here," said Dale Hemmila on Cliffs' involvement.
The hope is when the trees mature, they will shade the creek allowing for cooler temperatures, enhancing fish habitat.
