It's important to make sure you're properly hitched
ISHPEMING -- As Memorial Day weekend opens up the unofficial start of camping season, it's important to make sure your trailer is properly hitched.
Any trailer that is over 1000 pounds must have electric brakes and a proper weight distribution. The weight distribution will help to keep the trailer level and is based upon the height of the trailer. For those people who are heading out for the first time this year, it's important to make sure they inspect their equipment.
"Well, getting out for the first time in the season, it's really important to check your lug nuts, make sure your tires are on tight, you have proper air pressure, that your battery is charged up, and your emergency breakaway works properly," explains Hilltop RV's Certified RV Tech, Kirk McNab.
If you are unsure of whether or not your unit is properly hooked up, places such as Hilltop RV in Ishpeming offer free tow inspections.
