Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death and injury among young children
MARQUETTE -- Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death and injury among young children. But more kids will be riding safely now after Saturday's free car seat check in Marquette.
Inspectors noted three common problems among the installed seats: not properly locking the seat into the vehicle, not having the harness straps properly tightened, and not using the chest clip correctly.
And organizers say they feel events such as this one are very important to host often.
"I can say that very seldom do we ever see somebody leave the event the same way they came, because we usually always find at least one mistake, and we all say it's a little mistake, but if you're in a crash at 60 miles per hour, a little mistake can have big consequences," says Gary Gustafson of MGH Injury Prevention.
The event was sponsored by the Marquette General Women's and Children's Center and Kohl's.
