The agency estimates school aid revenue for this fiscal year is up about $255 million
LANSING (AP) -- Michigan lawmakers might not be done with tough budget decisions for the current fiscal year ending September 30.
A report Tuesday from the nonpartisan Senate Fiscal Agency estimates the state isn't collecting as much money for its general fund as analysts previously expected. General fund revenue could be down about $500 million compared to estimates made in January because of lower than expected business tax revenues.
There was some good news in the report. The agency estimates school aid revenue for this fiscal year is up about $255 million compared to January estimates because of better than expected sales tax revenue.
Fiscal analysts from the Senate, House and Gov. Jennifer Granholm's administration plan to make a consensus budget forecast Friday.
