Happened around 8 a.m. at the Sharon Center
HOUGHTON -- A 36 year old Laurium woman was taken to the hospital after her SUV smashed into the window of a Subway shop early Tuesday morning.
The crash happened in the Sharon Center Mall in Houghton just before 8 a.m. - no one else at the scene was injured.
The woman was apparently traveling east in the parking lot when her vehicle hit one support beam, took out another and slammed into the Subway storefront and the corner of the plaza.
One witness says the woman was unconscious and convulsing when he got to her car.
“I was making pasties in the back and I saw a blur go by the window,” says Aaron Butkovich, who was working at Roy’s Pasties and Bakery next door. “I heard a loud crash and saw dust flying. I ran out front and saw a vehicle crashed into Subway.”
The Houghton Police are still investigating the accident.
The Houghton Fire Department, Hurontown Fire and Rescue, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan Tech Public Safety also responded.
