NEGAUNEE -- Four U.P. women are going to Chicago next month to walk 40 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

It costs $1800 per person to participate in the event, and Sunday, the team held a fund-raiser at The Depot in Negaunee.

About a dozen vendors sold their products and donated a percentage of their profits to the four women.

Door prizes were also raffled off every hour.

The women all work together at the Midtown Bakery in Negaunee, and this is the first year they're doing the walk together.

Mary Beth Kurtz, a breast cancer survivor for nine years, says, "It's a very exciting, emotional, heartwarming, fantastic weekend, and every time I go and I talk about it and they hear about it, and they've wanted to join, so now the four of us are going as a team."

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is June 5 and 6.  This was the first year for the Pampered for Pink fund-raiser.

Kurtz says the team was so pleased with the turnout, they plan on holding the event again next year.
