They hope to choose a contractor by June 1
MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Board of Light and Power is looking at contractor bid proposals to rebuild Marquette's Tourist Park Dam. They hope to choose a contractor by June 1 so construction can start mid July and be finished by early December.
The BL&P has submitted an environmental assessment to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and a construction permit application to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment. They hope to hear back by July. They're optimistic about the project's approval and are anxious to start the project.
"We're excited about moving the end of this process and actually going out and building something," said BL&P Executive Director, Kirby Juntila.
The project is expected to cost about five million dollars, but the BLP insists rates will not increase as a result.
