Dickinson County is looking to build a YMCA
IRON MOUNTAIN -- The push for a YMCA in Dickinson County officially kicked off Tuesday night. The group got together to discuss raising money to bring the YMCA to the county.
The "Y" is looking to raise $500,000 over the next few weeks so programs can begin as early as this fall. That money would pay for operating costs for three years.
So far $110,000 has been committed to the campaign. The group is partnering with the Delta County YMCA so programs can come to the community.
"We're believers that this is the right thing for the community, and we want to see that come to realization. I'm very encouraged with all the people we've met with and talked with so far. The community seems to understand the intent of the "Y" and what it can do for all of us," said chief volunteer for the Dickinson YMCA, John Jamar.
The Dickinson County YMCA will begin with community programs but could include a facility down the road.
