Embezzlement suspect pleads no contest

MENOMINEE -- The former Harris Township treasurer charged with embezzling from the township over the past few years pleaded no contest to the charge Monday.

Margaret Jorasz, 51, waived her preliminary hearing, then made her plea in Circuit Court.  She pleaded no contest to public official, embezzlement over $50.

The township supervisor says restitution has been paid in full which was over $308,000.

The township supervisor believes the crime began in 2004.

Jorasz resigned as treasurer last August and was charged in February.

The felony carries up to ten years in prison.  Her sentencing is scheduled for June 7.
