MARQUETTE -- Opponents of the Kennecott Eagle Mine went public Thursday with a protest outside the Marquette Post Office.

Protestors were on the sidewalks at noon sharp for a full hour, pleading with the public to halt mine construction.

Local artist and mine opponent Beth Millner organized the protest.  She said a versatile crowd came out because she sent out invitations on Facebook.

"Me and a friend, we were sitting down for coffee three days ago to, you know, just have a cup of coffee, and we just couldn't tolerate what the people have said no to.  People don't want this here--people don't want this mine on the Yellow Dog Plains.  We cannot risk Lake Superior and our drinking water," said Beth Millner, protest organizer.

About 45 people were invited to the protest via Facebook and according to Millner, almost all showed up.
