The musical of Oliver Twist has found its way to Iron Mountain
IRON MOUNTAIN -- The story of Oliver Twist has been passed down from generation to generation, but likely has never been seen like this.
The cast and crew of Oliver began preparations for the show in November and have been practicing regularly ever since.
"This is a wonderful, fun production. It's a lot of hard work which people may or may not realize when you're doing as large of a musical as Oliver," said Oliver Director Duane Peck. "This is a musical that not only requires strong acting, but requires strong singing."
And talented community members, like Kathy Stenland, will be giving her first onstage performance since middle school.
"You get to see some violence and lots of dancing and singing," said Stenland.
Others, like Paul Humphrey, a.k.a. Fagin, are veterans of the stage.
"I hope to stay hidden because when the magistrate finds out about what I'm doing, I might not have a job anymore," said Fagin.
The characters range in age from 8 to 83, giving an authentic feel to the play that can only be experienced live.
"This is a cast that incorporates children as well as adults. It has a great deal of pathos and there is a lot of comedy," Peck said. "Live theater has its own excitement and live theater says this is what it’s all about."
You can catch Oliver's final weekend at the Braumart Theater in Iron Mountain Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
