Saturday rally drew over 200 people
HOUGHTON -- A group of people in the Copper Country got a chance to ask their legislators questions on Saturday at a Tea Party Rally at Veterans Memorial Park in Houghton.
Tough questions were asked and answered by elected officials like Mike Lahti and those seeking office like Tom Casperson.
The rally drew in over 200 people, many that said they're frustrated with health care reform and how slow the economic recovery has gone.
"(I wish) that the administration would more lean towards the greater majority of the people and support families and business to help the country prosper," said Houghton businessman, Roy Narhi.
Besides Lahti and Casperson, other political candidates came to the Tea Party, including Matt Huuki, who filed this week to run for the 110th District seat currently held by Lahti. Lahti is running for State Senate.
"We can't be ashamed of it anymore," said Huuki. "We're backed up against a wall and we can't back up father, and we have to stand up and shout and let it be known that we're proud of who we are."
And like other Tea Party rallies around the country, demonstrators held signs reading "Don't Tread on Me" among others.
All the speakers at the Tea Party on Saturday encouraged those who came out to research before voting in the August primary or the November election.
