He won't be running for Stupak's seat

LANSING -- State Senator Mike Prusi announced Friday that he will not be entering the race to replace U.S. Representative Bart Stupak who announced his retirement last week.

Prusi, a Democrat, had been considered a prime candidate for the seat.

"In the week since Congressman Stupak announced his retirement, I have been asked by a number of people, whom I respect, to replace him," said Prusi.  "After much discussion and thought, I want to put any speculation to rest and state that I will not be a candidate in the 1st District.  After considering all factors on both personal and family levels, I decided I could not enter the race."

Several candidates, both Democratic and Republican, have expressed interest or actually filed for the seat, and it promises to be hotly contested in both the primaries and the general election.
