Agatha Christie's "Mousetrap" runs all week
MARQUETTE -- Eight people, trapped by a snowstorm in a British boarding house, with a murderer on the loose.
The classic Agatha Christie thriller, Mousetrap, is a murder mystery that leaves audiences guessing, and well, that's the point.
"It leads you down all kinds of roads," said Director Paul Truckey, "and hopefully we won't know the murderer until the end."
The story, which involves the two newlywed boarding house owners, takes a twist when one of their five boarders is murdered; after a police sergeant skis to the hotel, telling them a murderer is coming to the hotel.
Over time, suspicion falls on each character until a twist at the end reveals the killer.
"It's fun," said Emma Couling, who plays Molly Ralston. "She's very stylized; everything Agatha Christie writes is very stylized. It's a great adventure to explore that kind of writing, that kid of language as you create a character of your own."
Students at Northern Michigan University are putting on "Mousetrap" every night this week at the Forest Roberts Theatre on campus. It costs $12 a person, $8 dollars if you're a student.
"The story itself, it's intriguing," Truckey said. "It's funny, it's creepy, it's all of those things, and really, I can't believe anybody couldn't come to this theater tonight or any other night and not be totally entertained by this show."
Mousetrap runs through this Saturday night with the show starting each night at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee Saturday at 1 p.m.
