TV6 has obtained a follow-up from the Michigan Department of Corrections
The Michigan Department of Corrections has provided a follow-up to a recent story concerning parolees being housed in motels in the Chocolay area of Marquette.
Michigan State Police say placing parolees in local motels has been a practice for many years. However, the recent spike in residency has caused concern among near by residents. They are unhappy with the fact that the state has a contract with the Marquette Motor Lodge and the America's Best Inn Motels to house ex-prisoners because it makes them feel unsafe in their community.
TV6 has obtained a follow-up from the Michigan Department of Corrections responding to the situation.
"Almost all inmates return home eventually. We do everything we can to place parolees back with their families or those who offer support to them," said Robert DeCamp, Michigan Department of Corrections.
