It's been a long time in the works, but Kennecott has started their hiring process.

Construction planning is now underway, and mine officials estimate it will last at least three years.  They expect to hire over 400 construction workers to prepare the mine site, construct fencing, and erect surface building.

Kennecott will also be hiring for the Humboldt Mill refurbishment which is to begin in 2011.

Contractors need to get prequalified before they can submit a bid.

"The prequalifications will look at the history and experience of the contractor and, most importantly, the history of safety of that contractor," said Matt Johnson, Kennecott.

Kennecott will began the hiring process for the over 200 mine employees shortly before construction of the mine is complete.
