The story told through "The Diary of Anne Frank" has touched many lives
ESCANABA -- It's a diary known around the world. The story told through The Diary of Anne Frank has touched many lives, and the Drama Department at Bay College is bringing that story to the stage this weekend.
She's a 13-year-old girl, forced to go into hiding with her family and another family from the Germans during World War II. During her time in the tiny top floors of the annex, Anne Frank kept a diary...documenting her experience.
"Her diary kept her sane and really she keeps everyone in the attic in great spirits," explained the actor playing Anne, Autumn Fournier. "The eight of them spent two years in the attic, and you learn that their day-to-day life wasn't necessarily as sad as some may think it is. They had some laughs and some joys."
This year marks the 65th anniversary of Anne Frank's death. That's why the Drama Department at Bay College decided to put on the show. And whether you've read the book or not, either way, the director says audiences won't be disappointed.
"If you have read The Diary of Anne Frank, you will really enjoy the performance," said Director Crystal Dwyer. "It really holds true...the characters are strong and believable on stage, and it's a very haunting tale that speaks to everyone."
If you'd like to catch a performance of "The Diary of Anne Frank," shows will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Besse Center Theatre at Bay College.
