It's been a promising start to spring for gardeners across Upper Michigan. Temperatures have run well above average, with little snow to speak of. But it's not time to get started on the garden just yet.
Spring sees volatile weather in the U.P. and one that isn't kind to seedlings. One unexpected frost early on can stunt plants for the entire growing season.
When the frost is gone, though, it's a grower's paradise here.
"Our climate is actually, it's a very good climate for growing most of the flowers. In a lot of areas where it gets real hot, they kind of stall and quit growing. We actually have a real good climate, they like the little bit cooler temperatures, most of the flowers," said Eric Meister, owner of Meister's.
So, while it might be tough to watch the warm days go by for now, your garden will thank you later.
