HOUGHTON -- An athletic trainer from Portage Health was in Vancouver last month helping the U.S. Men's Ice Sledge Hockey Team win gold in 2010 Paralympics.
Brian Brewster spends most of his days working with student athletes at Michigan Tech, but for the past few years he's used his healing hands to serve as athletic trainer for the U.S. Men's Ice Sledge Hockey Team.
Brewster says watching the players shut out one team after another and eventually claim gold in a 2-0 win over Japan was a once in a lifetime experience.
"When they raise the flag and your national anthem is playing, it's pretty emotional. Everyone's singing The Star-Spangled Banner, and you get tears in your eyes. It's just hard to put into words."
Brewster says all of the Paralympic athletes are an inspiration, and he wishes they got more media coverage.
