He calls report about him a "false attack"
WASHINGTON DC -- UP Congressman Bart Stupak says those who are claiming that he traded his vote for the health care reform bill in exchange for funding for three airports in his district are engaging in false attacks.
The charges have appeared on some online sites.
Stupak announced Federal Aviation Administration funding for the three airports last Friday. Such funding announcements are fairly routine.
Stupak has been denounced by conservatives and pro-life advocates ever since he announced on Saturday that he would support the health care reform package, because the President had promised to sigh an executive order to prohibit using federal funds for abortions.
Stupak had said all along he would support the package as long as it expressly prohibited funding abortions.
