4th graders write grant for planetarium visit

Star constellations were brought to life at the Birchview School in Ishpeming Thursday with a portable planetarium set up in the gym.

Elementary school students ventured inside the planetarium where they viewed a clear night sky on a smaller scale.  While inside the students also learned about astronomy and Greek mythology.

Regularly the cost of renting the planetarium for a day is about $200.  But with the help of three forth graders, students were able to enjoy the planetarium without the high cost.

"We wrote a grant for the Starlab and our awesome, ABC Parent Group funded for it and Cleveland Cliffs did too," said 4th Grader, Kierstan Malone.

Students in younger grades enjoyed the planetarium so much, they hope to work on a grant to bring it back next year.
