Three out of the five Sault Saint Marie tribal members charged in the illegal commercial fishing operation in Little Bay De Noc are being cited with about 100 civil infractions.
Officials from the tribe made the announcement on Tuesday.
The three are accused of illegally setting nets in Little Bay De Noc to catch walleye, taking thousands of pounds of walleye out of the lake and selling them for profit back in early 2009.
The citations stem from an investigation by the state department of natural resources and environment.
The two other tribal commercial fishermen remain under investigation and have not yet been cited.
A Delta County man is also being charged in the case.
We want to know what you think about this.
Do you think civil infractions are a fair punishment for illegally setting nets?
