After months of shoveling snow and braving cold temperatures, the countdown to spring vacation has begun.
Taking a break from the cold doesn't have to mean breaking your budget.
“Being flexible with your plans is the best way to save when booking a trip,” said Laura Nelson of Holiday Travel. “If they can be flexible with their dates, it would help a lot. Availability has a lot to do with pricing, so if you're looking at a flight that's really, really full, it's going to be very, very expensive.”
There are a few ways to make your trip less expensive. Book your trip early, avoid last week of March through the first week of April--it is the most expensive time to travel--and be flexible with flight times.
Agents at Holiday Travel say that twenty percent of their clients this year didn't make spring vacation plans last year.
Cold winters in the U.P. are helping the travel industry this spring.
Anita Johns of Holiday Travel said, “This year the economy is looking up somewhat and people are just sick and tired of the winter so they just want to a good value but most people are still traveling six or seven nights to a warm destination.”
Travel agents say that so far, Mexico and Florida are the most popular destinations for spring vacations this year.
