MARQUETTE -- After over a month of construction, the new showroom for items made by Lakestate Industries employees is finally open to the public.
The majority of employees make furniture, like benches, chests, and end tables, which they sell to the public and national outdoor federations.
Lakestate Industries provides work training and job placement for persons with barriers to employment.
With the new showroom, officials say they can now display all their merchandise, along with other items made in the community.
"Everything is handmade. We have "yooper fire starters" that we also produce, and we also have some products from people with barriers to employment outside of here, and we've purchased from them. There's greeting cards, and there's gift tags and bookmarks, things like that," said Cheryl Ohman, Executive Director of Lakeside Industries.
The showroom is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
