MARQUETTE -- The economy may still be down, but Marquette businesses did well Friday night at the start of the UP 200.

Thousands of people came out to watch the sled dog races, and the unusually warm weather may have brought out even more than usual.

The local businesses that stayed open, reaped the benefits.

"They visit some of the businesses that are downtown.  It's just fabulous for the downtown," said Kim Danielson, Babycakes Muffin Co.

"We were packed from 5 p.m. on and it was a wait most of the evening, and you know we served a lot of pizzas that night," said Brian French, Aubrey's Pizza.

The businesses hope the customers who stopped in Friday night will keep coming back during normal business hours.
