Women and men of all ages donated eight inches or more of their hair.
MARQUETTE -- Sunday, students at N.M.U. were raising awareness about cancer. Women and men of all ages donated eight inches or more of their hair.
Two girls were even brave enough to shave their heads.
"One of my cousins was diagnosed with a hair loss disease and his eyelashes fell out and his eyebrows and his whole head, and I remember thinking if I could give him my hair I totally would, and now I have an opportunity to give other people my hair, and I just think it's a really good cause," said freshman Hailey Schroeder.
Resident advisor Megan Parsons added, "Both [girls] stepped up and said we're willing to donate our hair; we recognize that vanity isn't as big of an issue as children without hair are facing, so we'd like to be helpful, so here they are."
This was the second year for the event, sponsored by Women For Women. All of the hair donated will go to Children With Hair Loss, a non-profit organization downstate.
