Committees charged with studying transportation and corrections budgets are among those scheduled to meet Tuesday at the state Capitol.

LANSING (AP) -- Michigan lawmakers are ready to officially begin reviewing Gov. Jennifer Granholm's latest budget proposal.

Committees charged with studying transportation and corrections budgets are among those scheduled to meet Tuesday at the state Capitol.

State officials have not figured out a way to boost the budget for road construction in the fiscal year starting in October.  Hundreds of projects could be delayed over the next few years.

Granholm wants to allow thousands of inmates to leave prison early for good behavior.  That plan has come under fire from Republicans and the law enforcement community.

Granholm proposes spending cuts in her new budget.  But she also wants to slightly lower the state sales tax rate and expand the tax to some services.
