HOUGHTON -- It's the day before Paczki Day which means hours of preparation for many local bakeries including Roy's Pasties and Bakery in Houghton.
The staff got started making thousands of the extra large donuts about week ago, averaging 400 a day. Monday, extra workers helped out with sugaring, filling and packaging orders.
Traditional paczkis are made with a fruit filling, but Roy's started offering their popular creme and chocolate alternatives several years ago.
"It is a lot of work for one day, but at the end there's a lot of satisfaction in bringing something to the customers that they really very much look forward to," said owner Roy Narhi.
The work will continue through the day Monday and possibly into the early morning Tuesday.
The bakery opens at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
