Delta Airlines will begin twice-daily service to both Detroit Metro and Minneapolis-St. Paul from Sawyer.
SAWYER -- Marquette County and Sawyer International Airport officials have reported that Delta Airlines will be making changes to include non-stop service to Detroit and Minneapolis-St. Paul.
The service is set to begin on Tuesday, April 6, and will provide two daily flights to each city on a 50-seat regional jet.
"Delta looks forward to providing this market with upgraded services and added connectivity to numerous international and domestic destinations from two key hubs in our worldwide network," said Karen Zachary, Delta's General Manger of Network Planning.
According to Sawyer Airport Manager, Keith Kaspari, "Scheduled service with larger aircraft will provide an immediate 47 percent daily increase in available seat capacity and significantly reduce the weight-restricted flights that were often-times in an over-sold condition."
"It's a complete transition of aircraft," Kaspari added. "From 34-seat turboprop to 50-seat regional jet aircraft and with service two flights a day to both hubs. So we're excited about that because it's going to give our business and leisure travelers increased flexibility to get in and out of Sawyer."
