Drop in snowfall means less people are coming to town.
MUNISING -- Snowmobiles, cross country skiing, ice climbing and snowshoeing. Munising has it all in the winter season, and it's what draws visitors from all across the United States.
"It's just a really great experience up here every year. A lot more snow than we have down south, so it's great to come up here every year," exclaimed snowmobiler Samantha Stibbe.
However, with a decrease in the amount of snowfall this year, the winter tourism season has gotten off to a rocky start.
"Well, it did start off a little slow. It is picking up. We do have snow, we do have our trails that are groomed, that type of thing. I'm starting to see a lot more of the silent sports pick up," explained Downtown Development Authority Director Char Carberry.
And it isn't just the visitors center that's seen a decrease in traffic. Area restaurants have noticed not as many out of towners are stopping by.
"We have such a great local business here. It keeps us going. It keeps us on the busier side. You always have your everyday coffee people and you have your Friday night fish frys, so that helps a lot," said Sydney's Restaurant Assistant Manager, Heidi Prunick.
Despite the slow start to the winter season, motel owners are still remaining hopeful.
"I think Munising stays busy right through March pretty much. Towards the end of March, it starts slowing up, but you get the people who want to hang on for their last week or two of winter. But for the next, I would say six weeks, we're looking at pretty darn good business," said Superior Motel owner, Scott Ogler.
