ESCANABA -- If Asian Carp get into the Great Lakes, it could mean devastation for Michigan's boating and fishing industries.

Friday afternoon, State Representatives Judy Nerat, Steve Lindberg and Mike Lahti met along the shores of Little Bay de Noc to launch a campaign to keep the carp out.

The invasive fish could wreak havoc on the Great Lakes' multi-billion dollar boating and fishing trades.  And hundreds of thousands of jobs could be on the line.

"At the high rate of unemployment already in the whole state, let alone the Upper Peninsula, this could be total devastation for us," stated Nerat.

The state lawmakers are calling for Chicago bureaucrats and the governor of Illinois to close two shipping locks to prevent the spread of the carp.  They've also launched a Web site to get the message across.
