Finlandia University President Philip Johnson is excited by the governor's new focus for the state and says that Granholm's message reflects recent changes on the Hancock campus.
HANCOCK -- In Wednesday night's State of the State Address, Governor Jennifer Granholm announced her goal of rescuing Michigan's economy by supporting entrepreneurs.
The governor's plans include $200,000 for business training and education as well as provisions for $43 million in small business loans.
Finlandia University President Philip Johnson is excited by the governor's new focus for the state and says that Granholm's message reflects recent changes on the Hancock campus.
"She's going to restore funding for the Promise Grant, "said Johnson. "This has a direct impact on students who come to Finlandia, and I'm just encouraged that she's looking toward small businesses and entrepreneurs to become the backbone of the new economy."
In addition to offering students a more diverse curriculum, Finlandia opened a business incubator with 20 new suites at the Jutila Center in December.
