A head-on collision Tuesday morning in Ironwood has cost a man his life.

Thirty-one-year old Adrian Norabuena-Medina's car hit a tractor-trailer loaded with logs on US-2 in front of Grandview Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Gogebic County Sheriff's Department received the call around 3:45 central time Tuesday morning.

Initial investigations say the car crossed into on-coming traffic and slammed head-on into the truck.

The car was then trapped underneath the truck.

Portions of US-2 were closed for five hours as logs and debris were cleared from the highway.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

The sheriff's department has not said what caused the accident.

UPDATE: 10:57 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Initial investigation shows that the driver of the car appears to have crossed into the path of the oncoming truck.

According to officials, US-2 was reopened at 9:15 a.m. central time after being closed for several hours.

We are getting in more information about the accident early Tuesday morning in Ironwood.

Aaron Martin passed along the details that he received from authorities at the scene.

The crash involved a car and a logging truck on US-2 in front of Grand View Hospital.  The call came in at 3:45 a.m. central time.

Initial investigation shows that the car and truck hit head-on.  The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road remains closed at the time of update.

UPDATE: 6:41 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Due to a logging truck accident involving a passenger vehicle in front of Grandview Hospital in Bessemer Township, US-2 is closed with traffic being diverted westbound on to Country Club Road to Old County Road to Puritan back on to US-2. and just the opposite eastbound.

Traffic needing to get to Grandview hospital will be guided by emergency personnel at the scene.

This accident has been deemed a fatality.  TV6's Iron Mountain/Kingsford Bureau reporter Aaron Martin is on the scene and we'll have more information when it becomes available.
