MARQUETTE -- Kids in Marquette were hoopin' it up Saturday in hopes of becoming a free throw champion.

The Knights of Columbus sponsored their annual free throw competition for kids ages 9 to 14.  Each participant got 15 tries to sink as many baskets as they could.

The event has been going on for about 50 years, and the Knights of Columbus are happy to reach out to the kids.

"Kids are very important to the Knights of Columbus and always have been.  It's part of one of the five areas that we work with is youth and it gives them another outlet.  It gives them something to do and recognizes those kids that take the time and effort to participate in sports," said Charles Crotty of the Knights of Columbus.

The winner from Saturday's competition will go on to compete in the district level next weekend.
