NEGAUNEE TWP -- The January thaw ended just in time for conditions to improve for this weekend's Noquemanon ski race.

Organizers say the trails look great and everything has frozen once again.

Many areas have plenty of snow cover, but the last few hundred meters of the trail may need to have snow hauled in.

The Dead River Basin area was a concern among skiers, but it, too, is ready for the race.

"The Dead River Basin area is holding really well," stated Nikki Dewald, Race Coordinator.  "The water is solid, it is icy, but it's holding well and our Bombardier went up there yesterday and it is scheduled for its eight-hour groom down here to the Dome on Friday night."
