Shakespeare on women's rights
ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP -- This Friday at 7 p.m., the Westwood Shakespeare Company production of 'I Must Speak!' will premiere at the auditorium in Westwood High School. This play will be all about the woman.
"These scenes are really unique in that they bring out those aspects of being a woman that are so emphasized these days, about the need for equal rights and about the need for the right to speak and the right to be heard as a woman, and that's why it's called 'I Must Speak'," said BG Bradley, Director of Westwood Shakespeare Company.
The play will depict some of the most interesting woman from Shakespeare's writings, and the music will give the play a more contemporary feel.
Emily Kinne, an actress in the play said, "It's different than like normal things, like, that you see on TV because they're just, like, talking and you can act like a person that's just nowadays and, like, a modern person, but acting like somebody who, like, lived a long time ago; and the language, it's just different."
Practicing for the play has been a fun way for the actors to learn more about Shakespeare's work.
"I love it. I just, I don't know, it's just like the thrill of being up on stage and being someone else, I guess. It's just, I think it's really fun. I have a blast," said actress, Shaylee Carlson.
Tickets are six dollars for adults and four dollars for students.
