Some Michigan state parks are offering cross-country skiers the chance to enjoy their sport by candlelight.

The trails are lit by lanterns or candlelit luminaries during the winter.

Visitors on skis or in snowshoes may navigate their way down the trails at night, en route to bonfires built and lit by park staff.

The bonfires offer a place for skiers to stop, relax and stay warm.

The state's Pure Michigan Tourism web site says such events are planned at parks including Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon County, Fayette Historic State Park in Delta County, and Indian Lake State Park in Schoolcraft County.
