IRONWOOD -- The first ever Sisu Ski Fest brought cross country skiers to Ironwood over the weekend.
Planning for the event started last February, and with the support of the local community and some very willing volunteers, organizers say it was smooth sailing.
Racers were impressed, saying for a first time event, it was an excellent day.
"Oh, it was a great event," exclaimed Joe Dubay, winner of the 42K classic race. "I mean the trails were really good, the feeds were right where they needed to be, the competition was really tough. It was a lot of fun, a lot of work and it was a pretty good day to race, too!"
Skiers came to Gogebic County from as far away as Illinois and even from Canada for the Sisu Ski Fest.
