Police Chief fills void temporarily
MARQUETTE -- Marquette City Manager Judy Akkala officially retires on Friday so Monday night, the City Commission voted in an acting City Manager.
Police Chief Mike Angeli will serve as acting City Manager for the next three months while the commission works at hiring a new manager.
Akkala has served the City of Marquette for the past 11 years with the last four as city manager.
Munising Mayor Rod DesJardins was there to give Akkala a key to the city. She was City Manager in Munising for seven years.
The next step for the commission is choosing the right person to fill the position.
"We've got a good commission in place to conduct a search and get a qualified applicant. I believe we're going to have some really good applicants coming in," said Marquette Mayor, John Kivela.
Also on the agenda was the roundhouse property. The commission decided to give the Roundhouse Development Group 30 days to move forward, or they'll give other groups a chance at developing the property which is valued at $734,000.
