ALGER COUNTY -- Racers at the Valley Spur Bash outside of Munising said Saturday's conditions were perfect for the ski races.

Around 60 people took part in the 4th annual event, which included a 12K classic, a 24K classic and a 24K freestyle race.

Some skiers came for the fun of it, others were getting ready for the Noquemenon Ski Marathon on Saturday, January 30.

"I will ski the Noquemenon and yes, it's a great warm-up for that," said Barb Verhamme of Munising.

"I'm here just to get out and have fun skiing with some friends.  And they know the race, they've done it before.  This is my first time here," added St. Clair resident, Jackie Handloser.

Skiers competed for a trophy and medals in each age class.
