Twenty-four unit apartment complex going in
CRYSTAL FALLS -- A plan to begin revitalizing downtown Crystal Falls is finally underway.
Development firm Hovey Company has been approved by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority to begin renovating the Crystal Manor property. The former nursing home is being converted into a 24-unit apartment complex.
The project is especially important to lifelong Crystal Falls resident and Mayor Janet Hendrickson.
"I worked in that building, my mother worked in that building and I was in that building many times when we had residents living there as patients in Crystal Manor," said Hendrickson. "We desperately needed this building to be renovated on Main Street."
Hendrickson said the renovation will help the struggling downtown area by bringing in money to the city and helping local businesses.
The project could be completed as early as this summer.
