The eastern U.P. could see inmates again.

An eastern U.P. prison could see inmates again.

Michigan is looking for federal and out-of-state prisoners, and they could be housed at the Hiawatha Correctional Facility in Kinross and the Standish Maximum Prison north of Detroit.

Michigan is close to a deal with Pennsylvania to house 1,000 inmates.

Lansing officials are also reworking a proposal to house California prisoners.

An earlier offer was rejected in August.
