L'ANSE -- More than 400 holiday food bags will be distributed by St. Vincent de Paul in L'Anse Thursday morning.

Volunteers spent hours at the food pantry Tuesday morning putting together enough Christmas bags to fill several rooms.  Each bag has necessities such as cereal and treats that include cookies and candy canes.

All of the food came from donations.  About 5,000 pounds from the TV6 Canathon and more than 3,000 from the community.

"We're finding that people who have a little bit want to help others that they feel are in greater need than themselves.  It's unbelievable," said Jim Dompier, St. Vincent de Paul, District President.

Money donations were used to buy meat and food for people with special dietary needs.

St. Vinnie's has also prepared a couple hundred gift bags for people in nursing homes and foster care.
