ESCANABA -- With snow on its way, officials with the road commission want to remind motorists of the dos and don'ts when encountering plows on the roads.
Officials recommend to stay at least 500 feet from the plow when following one.
They also want to remind motorists that snowplows often throw up snow clouds, reducing visibility on all sides of the truck.
And they say you should never attempt to pass a moving snowplow on the right.
"Some of our equipment is now equipped with wings on the right side of the plows, and if you come up alongside, you won't be able to see it and you'll run into it and it can cause serious, some serious injuries," said Rob VanEffen of the Delta County Road Commission.
And one last reminder is to always wear your seat belt and allow extra time to reach your destinations this winter.
